Medtronic's Symplicity Spyral™ Receives First-of-Its-Kind Approval for Renal Denervation System

Medtronic announced today that it has obtained approval from China's National Medical Products Administration (NMPA) for its Symplicity Spyral™ renal denervation (RDN) system, a breakthrough in addressing hypertension in the country. 

This approval marks a significant milestone as Symplicity Spyral becomes the first RDN system to gain NMPA approval in China. 

This achievement in China follows recent approvals from the U.S. FDA and launches in India and Canada, underscoring Medtronic's dedication to global accessibility of this technology. 

By This System blood pressure procedure is a minimally invasive technique delivering radiofrequency energy to calm overactive nerves near the kidneys, thereby reducing elevated blood pressure. 

It involves the insertion of a catheter into the kidney artery, administering energy to regulate nerve activity, and leaving no implant behind.

The Symplicity Spyral system has been endorsed under the Greater Bay Area policy, allowing commercial sales to hospitals in the region.
