Enhancing Holistic Cardiovascular Care: Recommendations from a Multidisciplinary Think Tank for Europe

Monday, May 27, 2024

Daiichi Sankyo Europe has unveiled the "Future of Heart Health in Europe: A Holistic Care Think Tank" report, stemming from a significant meeting held earlier this year.

This gathering brought together a diverse range of professionals, including clinicians, patient advocates, researchers, digital experts, media professionals, and policy specialists.

From this collaboration emerged three key recommendations aimed at integrating a holistic approach to cardiovascular (CV) care across Europe:

Enhancing Lifelong Support and Education: The report underscores the importance of improving support and education throughout an individual's life, beginning from a young age to establish a solid foundation for sustained wellness.

It suggests implementing programs within workplaces that incentivize both physical and mental well-being.

Promoting Interdisciplinary Collaboration and Communication: The recommendation emphasizes the appointment of a patient case manager and the utilization of artificial intelligence to streamline communication and coordination among interdisciplinary teams.

Advocating for Policy Changes: The report urges for the inclusion of a holistic perspective on CV care in European political agendas. Such policy changes are expected to facilitate better access to preventive care, promote the adoption of healthy lifestyles, and eliminate barriers to equitable healthcare.

Despite cardiovascular diseases (CVD) being responsible for 10,000 daily fatalities across Europe, the report emphasizes their preventable nature. It highlights the increasing focus on addressing the burden of CVD through behavioral changes and the management of risk factors.

The Think Tank, comprising experts specializing in behavioral and physiological aspects of CVD, such as diet, exercise, and mental health, aims to broaden the understanding of health beyond just cardiac health.

The importance of collaboration across diverse stakeholders for achieving a holistic approach to heart health in Europe. They called for health promotion and cardiovascular prevention to be prioritized at the political level.

Emphasized the need for healthcare professionals to reassess how they determine individual risk factors and to focus on lifestyle improvements to prevent atherosclerotic events.

This initiative is part of Daiichi Sankyo's ongoing heart health campaign, "We Care for Every Heartbeat" (WC4EHB).
